CATS Boston student-athlete Jaylen has been named the Gatorade Massachusetts Boys Basketball Player of the Year for the second year running. He joins an exclusive list of previous winners who have received the award in consecutive years.
Gatorade Player of the Year is the top honor in high school sports, celebrating the nation’s best high school athletes for their success on the court, in the classroom and in the community. The award signifies that Jaylen has been recognized as Massachusetts’s best high school boys basketball player in 2024-25, joining an impressive group of former winners including LeBron James, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jayson Tatum and Cooper Flagg. Winning the award once is an extraordinary accomplishment, but securing it consecutively underscores Jaylen’s exceptional skill and undeniable talent as a basketball player.
Jaylen led the Griffins to a 28-7 record, #5 National Prep Ranking and a runner-up finish in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class AA tournament this past season. Throughout the season he has averaged 22.1 points. 8.5 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.
Off the court, he has worked hard in the classroom and has volunteered at the Tobin Community Center in Roxbury.
On graduating from CATS Boston, he will be progressing to Providence College, ranked 86th in NCAA Division I, to continue his basketball career. He also received offers from The University of Alabama, Xavier University, University of Kansas, Rutgers University and Virginia Tech.
Cary Herer, Head Basketball Coach at CATS Boston, said “Jaylen has been instrumental in putting CATS Academy on the National Prep basketball map in leading us to a 28-7 record and #5 National Prep Ranking. His leadership and his tireless dedication to his craft has led to our team and his individual success. We expect big things from him as he moves on to Providence College.”
